Filter B. Dual theme, not a slogan
Official wording requires research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial. Applicants should therefore be able to explain how their proposed research relates to both parts of the stated requirement. Monash does not publish a scoring rubric for that theme on the award page. Make both limbs visible in the research proposal you already submit for admission and scholarship consideration.
Filter C. Offer year and scarcity
Number offered: one every two years (from Round 4 (R4) / 2024 onwards). You must have submitted a scholarship application in the year the scholarship is offered. Automatic consideration does not create an annual SJMN. Open question (do not invent the answer): The SJMN award page describes support for a graduate research student but does not specify a degree level in its eligibility text. Monash’s graduate research application information covers both Master’s by Research and Doctoral programs. Do I need a separate application for the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship?
